About Grey Aiken

Although a native of South Carolina, I have always been captivated and felt drawn to the mountains. That draw led me to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail in 1995 which was only the beginning of my lifelong love of nature. After attending Abraham Baldwin College and earning a degree in Forestry, I began a 15 year career as a conservation forester with White Oak Forestry in the low country of South Carolina. However, my AT thru-hiking experience had kindled a spark for the Blue Ridge that never quite extinguished. In 2010, I took a leap of faith and moved to the mountains in Asheville, NC. It was here where I met my wife, Margaret. We married in 2012 and moved to Floyd, VA into a rental with a little woodshop out back.

Although I have always been very artistic, I could never quite find the perfect medium for my creativity….until I discovered woodworking. It felt like such a natural fit. While working full time in general construction, I began creating with wood with every spare hour I had and came to realize that I had stumbled upon my second career. As orders began flowing in, I realized quickly that I was going to need a larger shop to make my dream happen. 2016 began with a bang, as I opened the doors to my new studio and woodshop in historic Cambria and transitioned into woodworking full time. My woodworking style is rustic, yet refined. My materials are sourced locally whenever possible and I have a passion for working with reclaimed wood, taking what has been discarded and finding the natural beauty in it once again.

Infinity – an abstract concept describing something without any bound.
